LOAM Ceramics — Earth, Ash & Fire
One quarry. One kiln. No repeats.
LOAM Ceramics is an editorial e-commerce experience for one-of-one objects made from a local clay seam and marked by wood, ash and open flame. The website treats provenance as part of the product: the quarry, the firing and the maker's hand remain visible from the first frame through to purchase. I created the identity, interaction system, responsive product experience and frontend implementation.
My goal: make material origin impossible to separate from the object.
Conventional commerce grids make every product feel repeatable. LOAM needed the opposite: each vessel had to carry the specificity of one clay body, one position in the kiln and one unrepeatable surface. The home experience begins with landscape and process before resolving into objects available to collect.
A restrained typographic system gives the interface the voice of a field record. Kiln black, ash white and clay red move between the dark store and pale editorial pages. Layered strata, an arched firing window and slow scroll choreography translate the physical process into motion without getting in the way of product details, availability or checkout.
